The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), as an attached office under the Department of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, is the premier organization for the archaeological researches and protection of the cultural heritage of the nation. Maintenance of ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance is the prime concern of the ASI. Besides it regulate all archaeological activities in the country as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. It also regulates Antiquities and Art Treasure Act, 1972.
Under ASI Aizawl Circle, conservation works are going on at various monuments. Conservation works are conducting at Menhirs and Caves at Vangchhia, Champhai Distrcit, Mizoram, Thakurani Tilla, South Tripura District, Tripura, Sculptures and Rock- cut Reliefs of Unakotitirtha, Tripura and Gunavati Group of Temples, Gomati District, Tripura
Work is going on at Adarsh monument, Menhirs and Caves at Vangchhia, Champhai District, Mizoram regarding the construction of Toilet Block, Drinking Water facilities, Cafeteria and pathways.See Fig. 1(a) to Fig. 1(f) regarding SR to construction of pathways. See Fig. 2(a) to Fig. 2(d) regarding OW to construction of Interpretation Centre. See Fig.3 (a) to Fig. 3(f) regarding construction of toilet block and drinking water facility by NPCC.
Work is going on for upgradation/renovation of Inspection Room & Sculpture Shed.
